Articles written with a Large Language Model (LLM), such as ChatGPT, do not meet authorship criteria and will not be considered for publication. By submitting to the JEPT, you affirm that the article is an original work that has not been previously published. The editor of the JEPT reserves the right to verify your article for originality with plagiarism and AI detection software.

  • Manuscript length should not be less than 10 single-spaced pages or exceed 15 single-spaced pages.

The JEPT accepts 2 types of papers:

  1. Traditional research articles using empirically collected data and sound data analysis techniques.
  2. Concept papers - an authoritative, concise, and comprehensive document outlining a complex topic based on professional subject matter expertise. While concept papers also include an academically rigorous literature review, they focus on providing a detailed examination of the topic, encompassing facts, evidence, and analysis from an expert's perspective.  Concept papers follow a problem-solution structure, identifying an issue, and presenting a recommended solution fit for decision-making.  Thus, the goal of concept papers is to provide both education and a solution.  The deliverable, or application of the given analysis, may consist of professional development, a training course, a white paper, best practices, policy recommendations, etc.

Both types of papers should include the following:

-Abstract

-Introduction/Background

-Literature Review

 -Recommendations and Conclusions

The traditional research article will include the research methods, findings, and discussion.

The concept paper will include a detailed discussion of the topic, evidence, and analysis from a subject matter expert perspective.

The JEPT accepts submissions from academics and professionals alike.  If you are an expert in your professional field, you are welcome to submit a concept paper!

Adhere to the following guidelines as you assemble your manuscript:

Title page (Both)

The title should include the research methodology and design, if appropriate. All contributing authors’ names should be included on the title page, along with contact information for the corresponding author.

Abstract (Both)

The abstract should briefly summarize the purpose of the article and the findings of the study. Do not cite references and limit the length of the abstract to between 150 and 250 words. Include three to six keywords that represent the main content of the article.

Introduction/Background (Both)

Introduce the article. Provide the background of the study and discuss the problem that was identified and the purpose of conducting the research. The introduction should be approximately two single-spaced pages.

Literature Review (Both)

Provide a summary of existing literature and describe how the gap in research was identified. The literature review should be approximately three single-spaced pages.

Methods (Traditional Empirical Research)

Include the purpose, design, and setting of the study; the population and sample; the type of statistical analysis used, including power calculations if appropriate (the G*Power image does not need to be included); and ethical considerations if research was conducted on human subjects. The methods section should be approximately four single-spaced pages.

Results and Discussion (Traditional Empirical Reseach)

Include the findings of the study, including the results of statistical or thematic analysis. The findings may be reported in tables and figures, as appropriate, with a supporting narrative. Discuss the practical and theoretical implications of the findings and highlight the limitations of the study. Address any issues that are not covered in other sections of the article. The results and discussion section should be approximately four single-spaced pages.

Discussion of the topic, evidence, and analysis (Concept Papers)

The focus is on providing a detailed examination of the topic, encompassing facts, evidence, and analysis from an expert's perspective. Concept papers follow a problem-solution structure, identifying an issue, and presenting a recommended solution fit for decision-making.

Recommendations and Conclusions (Both)

Both clearly address the main conclusions. Include an explanation of the importance and relevance of the study to the field. The conclusions section should be approximately two single-spaced pages.   The Concept Paper has a deliverable, or application of the given analysis, and may consist of professional development, a training course, a white paper, best practices, policy recommendations, etc.
